The video selection below is just a small selection of work I’ve shot and edited over the years, covering music, interviews, documentaries, EPKs, business promos and app walkthrus.

Not all are full broadcast quality, the formats often being determined by end use, so apologies if you are watching on a 4K rig!. I’ve attempted to show sector coverage and edit style rather than output metrics.

Music video

Desire to make videos to my own and friend’s bands songs was my initial reason to get into video. I have owned various cameras - consumer and ‘pro-sumer’ - on which most of these were filmed and have used Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Pro X almost exclusively to edit.

Megastar:

“Part Of Me”

As part of Meg Mosley’s ‘Megastar’ social media starlet persona, she wanted a ‘lip sync’ video in keeping with the trend on the emerging TikTok platform. It needed to be bedroom-y and full of teenage obsessions, relationships, appearance etc and mimed to a current chart hit. Thanks Katy Perry! (2012)

Richard John Riley:

“Evie”

This was the video to the initial release from Richard John Riley’s first full length solo album “Not If But When” (TOR 010/ ALS 001). Footage comes from rehearsals for launch party gig, the gig itself and during the photoshoot for the album cover. (2006)

Pale Rider:

“Stillborn”

The second video I did for Pale Rider using three separate locations and an expanded cast to feature the whole band. It is essentially a performance video filmed at a disused MOD site near Corsham and a local scrapheap. Additional footage came from the track recording session in Wales. (2006)

The Ga*Ga*s:

Live Unplugged

During my time at Red Central, I worked quite closely with a young British band, the Ga*Ga*s. As well as nearly getting them a deal with Doc McGhee, this half hour unplugged show, filmed at the Hard Rock Café, London, was shown primetime on Scuzz TV - at the time one of the biggest satellite television channels in the UK. It was filmed live with two Canon cameras and carefully graded to harmonise the colour. (2006)

Daughters of Lilith:

“Falling Away”

Daughters of Lilith were the brainchild of guitarist and songwriter Kyrie Roberts. At the time their relatively novice drummer had never played with the band and didn't know the song. To be fair, she picked it up quickly, but there were plenty of crafty cuts and camera angles too. All part of the challenge! (2012)

Pale Rider:

“Understand It”

This is video I made in iMovie for a gothic rock project I was involved with. It reflects my obsession at the time with migraine-inducing visuals, probably because part of me lived life at 100 mph and needed an outlet. Lots of unnecessary filters and transitions but hey, it was in my 'early' period! (2004)

Documentary

I worked fairly extensively for a number of years providing video support for artist Meg Mosley. This would take the form of documenting a project where the work itself might have an ephemeral quality. In Meg’s case, performance in character was a big part of her work, so in certain instances the videos made became the lasting legacy of the work.

Meg Mosley:

“Hashtag MyLife (1)”

Video 'mockumentary' purporting to reveal the life and style of 'Megastar' a fictitious social media celebrity created by artist Meg Mosley. It involves various tableaux reflecting her take on various aspects of life at the time of filming. (2013)

Dave Broadway’s Bath Half Marathon

When Dave Broadway was CEO of CFH Docmail Ltd, he used to regularly run the Bath Half Marathon - until he broke his hip in a cycling accident. This is the story of his recovery and eventual triumph in being able to run the Bath Half once again. (2106)

Contraband Candy:

“Wacken Open Air”

I was for three years part of a dynamic duo with Rocksound TV presenter René Ackermann in a project we called 'Contraband Candy'. Basically, we flew off to European heavy metal festivals and filmed interviews with bands we liked for our YouTube channel. This was one of our favourite festivals, Wacken Open Air in Germany. (2008)

Meg’s Royal Wedding

Artist Meg Mosley commissioned a video documentation of her and her family's celebration of the Royal Wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011. She wanted it as a way of commenting on the 'over-the-topness' of celebrating such public events. She even dresses up her patient family and boyfriend as characters in the drama! (2011)

Meg Mosley:

“What a Performance”

Artist Meg Mosley describing how she attempted to recreate an original 1987 piece by performance artist Anne Bean, relying mainly on memory and a few archived photos. Meg filmed her interview with Anne and her impressions of Anne's London studio. (2009)

Promo and EPK

Making small promos for EPKs (‘Electronic Press Kits’) used to be a thing, most of which has now moved online thanks to YouTube. I’ve done my fair share of these. Sadly many of the early ones only exist in very small formats, but I’ve included some of these because I still like ‘em!

Dotpost:

“Test Pass”

One of a pair of short promo clips made to promote 'Dotpost', an app-driven online secure mailbox. The brief was to outline the concept of bank-level secure documents being available to you via your devices. This is to demonstrate the usefulness of having driver's licence always to hand. (2017)

Dotpost:

“The Candidate”

Second of a pair of short promo clips made to promote 'Dotpost', an app-driven online secure mailbox. Made with local young 'am-dram' talent, this one makes the case for the usefulness of always having access to your National Insurance number. (2017)

Royal Mail Hybrid Mail Promo

When Royal Mail licensed a re-badged version of CFH's 'Docmail' hybrid mail product, I produced this promotional video. It had to be done from start to finish in a matter of days when it became clear that the development would not be finished in time for a demo at an important internal launch. All content had to be created on the spot because there was, at this stage, no product to film or screen capture. (2019)

West of England Falconry Promo

In their early days, leading falconry centre West of England Falconry wanted me to make them a promotional video. This was the first time I'd ever filmed live birds in flight and pulling focus was a nightmare! Smartphones or action cameras, nowadays can achieve better results, but this was the best I could do at the time. I tried to capture the serene majesty of these birds. (2012)

Red Central:

“Sizzlers” 2004-6

I worked for a number of years in the first decade of the 2000's for creative agency Red Central. Through them I got to produce a lot of marketing 'sizzlers' for EPKs and the beginnings of online delivery. Although back then formats were a lot smaller, hopefully, this little compilation demonstrates the sort of thing I was up to. (2004-6)
